Characteristics and Background of Authoritarian Societies
Looking around the world, the political and social structures of countries vary greatly. I find that particularly authoritarian societies include major powers like Russia and China, as well as developing or resource-rich countries where corruption is widespread. Understanding why these countries appear authoritarian requires examining the underlying social structures and economic dynamics.
1. Suppression of Diversity and Lack of Flexibility
In authoritarian societies, the diversity that sustains social adaptability and circulation is often suppressed. Different opinions and values are not respected, society becomes rigid, and power tends to concentrate in the hands of a few. As a result, maintaining control and stability is prioritized over change or renewal.
2. Poor Economic Circulation and Expansionist Tendencies
Moreover, when a country's fiscal and economic systems contribute poorly to overall social circulation, resources become scarce. To compensate, these societies may pursue expansion of resources or economic spheres, often resorting to war or coercion to secure disproportionate bargaining power. In other words, weak economic circulation structurally drives dominant and expansionist behaviors.
Summary
Authoritarianism is not just a matter of political systems—it is deeply linked to social structures such as suppression of diversity and poor economic circulation. In countries like Russia, China, and developing or resource-rich nations, these factors combine to make authoritarian traits more pronounced.
